2005 NAIFC Champions

FISKAS Balances and Wolfram Jigs are a key part of the tackle used by the 2004 & 2005 NAIFC Champions and 2005 Ice Team - Team of the Year!

Illinois team starts strong with over 14 pounds of Crappies and maintains 1ST place with 4.3 pounds of Gills to capture Ice Team’s 2005 North American Ice Fishing Championship.  Team Prowler, Mike McNett and Tony Boshold win with 1.09 pounds to spare - Alexandria, MN (12/18/05) – Saturday’s 14.40 pound bag of 15 Crappies was impressive for Mike and Tony, but it was less than 1/2 pound ahead of Tom and Ryan Fischer of Wisconsin who looked confident going into Sunday morning.  It did make quite a gap for the rest of the pack to make up as everyone dreamed of a limit of "Pounder" Gills for Sunday.  Sunday's target sunfish proved to be a tough bite for many anglers with below zero temperatures and bluebird skies.  Tony and Mike stuck to their plan and pulled an above average 15 fish limit and 4.30 pounds to increase their lead by over 1.09 pounds to capture the title of National Ice Fishing Champions for the 2005 Season.  The $10,000 purse was sweetened with the custom diamond Championship Rings; $750 for big fish (1.34lb crappie); 2 new 4-cycle Strikemaster Lazer Augers; 2 new Vexilar flashers; 2 new Clam Trap Pros; and $200 from Lindy Tackle.  In a live interview with KSTP1550 AM Radio, Mike and Tony discussed the importance of their research and game plan toward the tournament.  They searched the lake during open water and talked with locals to get the lay of the land for Crappies and big Gills.  Mike and Tony used FISKAS Wolfram Jigs and exclusively used Little Atom plastic "Nuggie" tails instead of live bait to secure their win on Sunday.  Tony explained that the big Gills were on the bottom and the Tungsten from the FISKAS Wolfram Jigs allowed them to drop quickly to the bottom through the smaller fish to reach the better fish.  The St. Croix ice rods with super sensitive strike indicators allowed them to see to slightest biters.  Congratulations to Mike and Tony on a well deserved win!

2005 Ice Team's - Team of the Year

Successful Lake Michigan charter captain's Joe Pikulski and Myron Gilbert of Brooklyn, Michigan use their skills to land the Ice Team title, Team of the Year - Alexandria, MN (12/17/2005) - Joe and Myron make a living putting clients on fish.  Myron explains that customers can be impressed with the sonar, flashers and electronics that it takes to find fish, but what keeps them happy and coming back is fish in the boat!  For these two, it's all business when it comes to fishing.  That attitude allowed them to win Ice Team's coveted Team of the Year by placing 2nd place in the New York Super Trap Attack; 2nd place in the Wisconsin Super Trap Attack and 3rd in the Michigan Super Trap Attack.  The points awarded for their placements and the total weights earned them the title and $2,500!  Myron and Joe know quality wins when it comes to their tackle.  This is why they use FISKAS Wolfram Jigs and Balances as a key part of their ice fishing arsenal.

Joe an Myron also qualified to fish in the 2005 National Ice Fishing Championships and were in 7th place after Saturday's solid 9.09 pounds of Crappies.  With Sunday's tough conditions, Joe and Myron moved up 3 positions with 5.30 pounds of Gills to place 4TH overall and won $2,000!  Congratulations to Joe and Myron!

In the summer, Pikulski and Gilbert run charter boats on the Great Lakes, Temptations Sport Fishing (517) 467-4717 and M & M Charters (517) 592-3376, respectively.
